School is in

Schools are back in session here in Oregon and where I live the kids were treated to a new school. I’ve watched it being built over the past year and my husband documented the progress with his V-Pan 617.

I showed up on opening day and luckily managed to get inside when my neighbors showed up with their two daughters. I have to admit that I was not in love with the architectural design on the outside especially the nearly flat roof in our wet climate. Didn’t seem like a good idea. The primary colored bump-outs seemed like an expensive addition and unless they were used for reading nooks then also senseless.

But then I walked inside and all I can say is “WOW”. It’s gorgeous. I want to enroll or maybe grab a cuppa and sit in the huge open library and read all day. I still don’t get the decision to put a slide in a library where I thought you were supposed to be quiet. It takes the kids from the second floor right down into the middle of the book-lined room. There’s  stadium seating with soft pillows for relaxing while reading. Who wouldn’t want to sit here.

And outside, there are playgrounds, equipment, 3 basketball courts and a garden. Yep, a garden! Raised beds for growing veggies and a little garden house. So the kids will learn about growing their own food and that can’t be a bad thing.

Oh, and those bump-outs…..they ARE reading nooks complete with soft sofas and chairs. Where do I sign up?
