Day 12 and our last day in the Wallowas

It’s our last day here and I don’t want to leave the lake.

Our neighbor tells us that the Wallowa River Falls is not far from here so we decide that will be our hike today. To find the falls we have to walk through an old Boy Scout camp. The old dining hall is made of huge logs. It looks like someone started to restore it and then quit. It’s sad that this camp doesn’t seem to be in use any longer.

So through the camp and up the hill and over to the falls. we wished we could have found access to the river’s edge but it is a sheer drop off and neither of us are that brave.

Walking back to the cabin we come across the spawning trout and this time there is evidence of the egg nests. How cool is that? i feet so sorry for the fish that are having trouble swimming. One guy is so big that the water is not deep enough for him. He struggles and I want to dig out a path for him, but ‘no touching’.

One last trip into Joseph for a beer at the Embers and a little fabric buying at the quilt store.

We finally got a few clouds that gave us a decent sunset. not epic, but at least some color. The haze from the forest fires finally seems to be gone. And we go home tomorrow. boo hoo
