Day 11 in the Wallowas

It’s time to do the Lostine River Trail. We were told this was an easy hike and very beautiful as it follows the path of the river.

We drove to the town of Lostine, turned left at the coffee shop and headed out the River road past some wonderful farms and pastures. We couldn’t tell from the map we picked up from the Forest Service how many miles it was to the trail head. Can’t be more than 10, right? Wrong. It’s 18 miles and that’s on wash board gravel for 5 miles and then the rest is a one lane dirt road with those pesky rocks. Same old story. Wrong tires. I can’t believe that we are actually thinking of a truck to replace our CRV.

We settled on a smaller trail, but still along the river. We think it would make a nice place for a picnic.

As we drove back to Joseph there were a few signs of Fall approaching.
