That is, a trip to Hippo Hardware store on SE 10th and Burnside in Portland, Oregon.
Might be an unusual spot for my Women’s photography group to meet up today, but there were many photo ops that presented themselves. It was the perfect place to use the 100 mm macro lens on my dSLR.
Hippo Hardware has been in business since 1976 and they specialize in original and reproduction hardware, architectural elements, lighting and plumbing from the 1850s to the 1960s. You can get lost in this place with several floors stacked to the rafters with STUFF. It’s either a fancy junk store or a messy antique store. You decide.
Drawers and bins over flow with door and drawer handles. Clothes hooks come in many shapes and forms.
There are numbers and letters to decorate the inside or outside of your house.
Plumbing fixtures abound. So many porcelain handles for hot and cold water. There are toilets, sinks and tubs in the basement. I couldn’t help but wonder who had owned the Elvis themed bath tub.
Hippos line the walls. Strange people hang from the ceilings. Hands turn into lamps. You name it, they have it.
And if you try to get out the store without paying you might look like this(and yes this was in the store too)
Had a great time wandering the aisles. I know there must be something in there I need. Another time.
