Portland Japanese Garden

I visited the Portland Japanese Gardens today to view the exhibit by the photographer Ishimoto Yasuhiro. They are photos he took in the 1950’s of the Katsura palace. The photos are all black and white, silver gelatin prints, and show simple compositions of line, form and texture.
There was no one else in the garden today. I’m not sure why people think they have to visit the garden when the cherry blossoms are blooming or when the Japanese maples are showing off their oranges, reds and yellows in the Fall. I find every season is worth a trip to this garden. It is considered one of the best Japanese Gardens in the USA. In winter, when you take away the fancy dress you are left with form, line and texture……just like the photographs of Ishimoto.
It’s worth a visit. But hurry, you only have until the end of the month to see the exhibit.
